Before you start
The 16-stitch chart is a starting sample of alternating knit and purl columns. Make a small swatch before choosing the finished scarf width.

Make a first sample
- Copy the template into Chart Maker. Keep an even stitch count for the two-stitch repeat; decide on any edge stitches separately.
- Knit the stitches that look like knits and purl those that look like purls. Check the chart legend when reading from the reverse side.
- Wash and dry the sample as you will the scarf. Record the relaxed width, then plan your cast-on and length before making the full piece.
Worked example
At a measured 20 stitches per 10 cm, a 20 cm width needs 40 stitches before any separate edge allowance. Enter your own washed gauge in the planner. Enlarging the canvas leaves new cells blank; fill the repeat deliberately.
