1Read the chart

Follow the colored paths: each path has a thread color and a stitch type. The canvas is a measured drawing area, not a counted cross-stitch grid. Guides help with placement; the chart records the path, while Preview suggests how its stitches look.

Chart is the editable instruction view. Preview is an approximate view of the finished texture, without guides; it does not guarantee size, tension, or a workable pattern.

2Symbols and stitches

These stitch samples use the same Preview rendering as the editor. Running, backstitch, satin, and stem are the four available types. Always check the selected path's stitch type in Properties.

Running

Short stitches with visible gaps along a path; spacing changes their rhythm.

Backstitch

A continuous outline along the drawn path.

Satin

Closely spaced stitches across an outlined area; Preview approximates the fill.

Stem

An overlapping, rope-like line following the path.

3Create and edit

1. Set Canvas size, then choose Stitch and a thread color. In Properties, choose a stitch type. Drag to draw a path and release to finish it.
2. Select a path to change its color or stitch type. Spacing controls the gaps for running stitch. For satin, draw around an area; the outline defines the approximate fill shown in Preview.
3. Use background guides and grid snapping to align paths. Compare Chart and Preview, and use Undo after an unwanted edit. Guides are placement aids, not extra stitches.

1Read the chart

Read from the numbered edge, starting at the bottom. Flat rows normally alternate direction; circular rounds read right to left. Wizard repeat charts show worked operations, including on wrong-side rows. Construction charts use one row per instruction step, which may include many rows or rounds. Follow their written instructions and section key: section colors do not mean yarn changes.

2Symbols and stitches

This is Chart Maker's key; other patterns may use different symbols. Symbols do not automatically add or remove cells, balance increases and decreases, or convert wrong-side instructions. Check the pattern's row instructions before knitting.

None

Color only, with no explicit stitch instruction. Preview shows a knit texture.

Knit

× marks a knit stitch in this editor.

Purl

A dot marks a purl stitch.

Yarn over

A circle marks a yarn over, creating an increase and an opening.

K2tog

Knit two stitches together: a right-leaning decrease.

SSK

Slip, slip, knit: a left-leaning decrease.

3Create and edit

1. Use Canvas size to set stitches and rows. Set gauge in Properties to adjust cell proportions and estimated dimensions; gauge does not change the number of cells.
2. Draw paints yarn colors; Fill recolors connected cells of the same color. Stitch places the selected stitch symbol. Color and symbol are separate, so changing one keeps the other.
3. Select cells to edit them or mark a repeat; the marker does not duplicate stitches. More options sets row direction. Side A and Flip side are independent charts, not automatic instructions for the back of your fabric.

1Read the chart

Each symbol represents a stitch; its color, position, and rotation describe your layout. For a motif in rounds, follow the pattern from the center outward. For rows, follow its foundation and turning instructions. The editor does not infer stitch order, joins, or turning chains.

2Symbols and stitches

English stitch names use US terminology: US single crochet is UK double crochet, and US double crochet is UK treble crochet. Rotation and scale change the drawing, not the stitch type. The symbol samples below keep the editor's orientation.

Chain

An oval represents a chain stitch (ch).

Slip stitch

A filled dot represents a slip stitch (sl st).

Single crochet

A cross represents single crochet (sc).

Half double crochet

A T-shaped symbol with no diagonal bar represents half double crochet (hdc).

Double crochet

One diagonal bar marks double crochet (dc): one initial yarn over.

Treble crochet

Two diagonal bars mark treble crochet (tr): two initial yarn overs.

Double treble crochet

Three diagonal bars mark double treble crochet (dtr): three initial yarn overs.

3Create and edit

1. Choose Stitch, select a symbol in Properties, and choose a color. Click to place one symbol or drag to place several, then release to finish.
2. Select a symbol to move it or change its type, rotation, and scale. Use Duplicate and Mirror for repeated elements. Check the placement of every copied stitch.
3. Use background guides to arrange rows or rounds, and grid snapping for alignment. Guides do not create stitches or connections. Compare Chart and Preview; add the making order and any special instructions to your pattern separately.
