# Yarn & skein planner

> Convert required length into whole balls or skeins with a chosen allowance.

- [Open tool](https://threadcabin.com/tools/yarn-skein-planner)
- The page shows its formula, example, assumptions, rounding, and limitations beside the calculator.

## Formula and assumptions

Choose length or weight. The required amount plus reserve is divided by the matching label amount per ball and rounded up to a whole purchase unit. Buy the whole project from one dye lot when color consistency matters.

## Worked example

Example: 850 m plus 10% allowance, at 200 m per ball, requires 5 balls.

## Limits and rounding

Results are planning estimates from the values entered. Displayed decimals are rounded for craft use; whole materials and repeats round up where the method says so. Confirm gauge, material behavior, construction, and finished measurements before committing supplies.
