## Density sets physical scale

Fabric count states how many stitch units fit a standard distance. A higher count makes the same chart smaller. Keep the unit with the value: 14 per inch and 5.4 per centimetre describe approximately the same density, not two different fabrics.

## Over-one and over-two differ

On evenweave, a chart square may span one or two fabric threads. Over-two halves the effective stitch count and doubles the motif dimension relative to over-one on the same ground.

## Calculate, add margin, then sample

Use the figure below for the stitched area and add finishing margin on every side. Test the intended number of strands for coverage and confirm the fabric is square before cutting.

Count and stitching span set motif size; strand count and colour contrast set coverage while chart geometry stays unchanged.

## Useful for

Counted cross stitch, geometric embroidery and adapting a fixed chart to a different regular ground.

## Care

Finish sample edges and test ground and thread together; measure again after the planned wash or finishing method.
