## Work through the example

1. Choose a motif instruction and make enough squares to test joining in both directions. Finish the sample and confirm the 12 × 12 cm joined pitch.
2. Define the motif field separately from any border. Enter its dimensions, choose cover or complete-only fitting and record the 10 × 15 layout.
3. Transfer the number to make to the time planner. Keep the sample unit as complete squares; a 15% time allowance gives about 45.43 hours here.
4. Measure yarn used by each color in the sample, plus joining and border yarn separately. Scale by actual motif and seam counts, not by the blanket’s photograph.
5. Print layout, spare count, color quantities and assembly order. Join a small panel early to confirm size before making the full set.

## Check before committing

This workflow assumes equal rectangular repeats. Its time covers the sampled square work; schedule joining, ends, border and drying separately. It is not a complete blanket pattern.

Turn a measured, joined motif repeat into rows, columns, and a make count for a rectangular project.

Join and finish several sample motifs before measuring the repeat pitch between matching points. Enter the motif field after subtracting borders.  Cover rounds up each axis; complete-only rounds down. Extra motifs are spares outside the layout.  Extra outer-edge allowance is added twice to each target dimension. Internal joins belong in the measured motif pitch.

Required field = target width/height + twice the outer-edge allowance. Divide each axis by the finished joined motif pitch, swapping axes when rotated. Cover rounds up; complete-only rounds down. Multiply rows by columns, then add the rounded-up spare percentage. This model covers aligned rectangular layouts.

Scale a timed sample into a realistic working estimate with your own allowance.

Time a representative count of the same units used for the target: stitches, rows or motifs. Include assembly separately if the sample omits it.  Avoid adding breaks twice. The central estimate and range support scheduling; they are not a deadline guarantee or an assessment of skill.

Observed minutes per unit are scaled to the target, selected complexity factor, and break allowance. The result shows a ±15% planning band for ordinary pace variation. Use comparable sample and project units; include breaks in the sample or allowance, but not both.
