## Work through the example

1. Finish the representative sample and count actual rows over a measured interior height. Do not substitute the stitch count across its width.
2. Compute 30 ÷ 10 × 60 = 180. If the design ends only after a four-row repeat, 180 already contains 45 complete repeats.
3. Separate setup rows and finishing bands from the repeated body. Measure the real work periodically and finish at the pattern’s required row position.

## Check before committing

Changing length can move shaping or color sections. A row count alone does not authorize removing rows from a fitted construction.

Wash and rest a sample in the project’s stitch pattern. Count stitches and rows inside measured central spans, excluding edge distortion.  Positive ease adds room to the target width; negative ease subtracts it. The rounded result is a planning count; fit repeats and construction details before casting on.

Formula: stitches ÷ swatch width × target width after ease; rows ÷ swatch height × target height. Each result follows the selected up, down, or nearest rounding rule and its stitch or row multiple.
