## Work through the example

1. Measure across an interior section of a finished sample. Count whole stitches over a known width; avoid stretched edges.
2. Use the same measurement basis: 22 ÷ 10 × 45 = 99. Keep ease at zero when 45 cm is already the intended finished width.
3. If the stitch pattern needs a multiple, pass the target to repeat fitting and compare the resulting physical widths. Add fixed edges only as the construction requires.

Wash and rest a sample in the project’s stitch pattern. Count stitches and rows inside measured central spans, excluding edge distortion.  Positive ease adds room to the target width; negative ease subtracts it. The rounded result is a planning count; fit repeats and construction details before casting on.

Formula: stitches ÷ swatch width × target width after ease; rows ÷ swatch height × target height. Each result follows the selected up, down, or nearest rounding rule and its stitch or row multiple.
