For 400 m of working length with one strand of each yarn and 10% reserve, yarn A and yarn B each need 440 m. Their lengths cannot be pooled.

## Work through the example

1. Record each label separately: A has 100 m/50 g; B has 200 m/25 g. Select one strand of A and one of B.
2. Round separately: five balls of A provide 500 m/250 g; three balls of B provide 600 m/75 g. The combined purchased mass is 325 g.
3. Sample the pair, including the intended finishing method. Check whether one strand stretches, sheds or changes size differently.

## Check before committing

This model assumes both yarns run together throughout. A contrast strand used only in selected areas needs a separate component budget.

Enter the working length needed by one strand, not the combined length of every strand. Select how many strands of A and B run throughout.  Each strand consumes the full working length; B can be zero. This estimates separate packages, not the combined yarn weight category or gauge.

Each working strand needs the entered length plus allowance. For each yarn, multiply that length by its strand count, divide by label length, and round up to whole balls. Total purchased mass is the sum of each ball count × label mass. It assumes all strands run together throughout; estimate separate sections separately.
