## Before you start

Keep an offcut or finished sample containing every material and color used in the project. Read the care instructions for all components before testing a treatment.

## How to do it

1. **Sample baskets and rugs** — Stiffness, abrasion and care matter independently of appearance. Test the actual yarn, joining method and intended contact surface before scaling up.
2. **Measure a motif after blocking and joining** — Use the distance between corresponding points of joined motifs. An 11.5 cm loose square with a join adding 0.5 cm per repeat has a 12 cm pitch in this example.
3. **Plan and join crochet motifs into a finished project** — Measure the joined repeat, plan rows and columns, arrange colour, and test a seam before assembling many motifs.
4. **Finish assembled crochet** — Support the whole wet piece and align seams without forcing motifs beyond their sampled dimensions. Check the relaxed dry size after removing pins.

## Try this example

Join four small modules and finish them as planned. Test whether corners lift and whether the sample shifts on its intended surface; resolve those issues before making the full floor piece.

## Check your result

- Let the sample dry fully and return to room conditions before comparing shape, color and surface. Record the actual treatment so it can be repeated.
- A successful small test reduces uncertainty but does not guarantee an identical result on old, damaged or mixed-material work.
