Sample the base, side fabric and attachment zones as different structural components.

## Before you start

Confirm whether the instructions use US or UK terms. On a smooth-yarn sample, mark the first and last stitch and note whether the turning chain counts.

## How to do it

1. **Plan mesh bags and handles** — Mesh can lengthen under load, while handles and attachment zones need separate structural samples. Measure the loaded bag as well as the relaxed fabric.
2. **Sample baskets and rugs** — Stiffness, abrasion and care matter independently of appearance. Test the actual yarn, joining method and intended contact surface before scaling up.
3. **Secure crochet ends and joins** — Route tails through compatible stitch paths without pulling the fabric tight. Test the fastening on the actual slippery, fuzzy or smooth yarn before trimming close.
4. **Repair crochet holes and seams** — Identify whether failure is in the seam, a stitch or the surrounding yarn. Secure unstable loops and rebuild or reinforce the damaged section against sound fabric.

## Try this example

Use a small tote prototype to test a handle attached across several rows rather than one edge loop. Inspect stretching at the join after the intended light trial load before scaling up.

## Check your result

- Count stitch tops separately from chain spaces and compare successive row or round totals. Lay the sample down without stretching it to inspect the shape.
- A symbol or familiar stitch name does not supply a complete construction. Use the project’s own counts, turning rules and joining instructions.
