Locate the first distorting round and test a revised attachment rate before replacing the entire border.

## Before you start

Stop and record the last correct reference point. Support loose loops or damaged ground before removing anything, and reproduce the fault on a spare sample if possible.

## How to do it

1. **Diagnose cupping and ruffles** — Too little circumference can cup; excess circumference can ruffle. First check counts, stitch height and tension against the intended construction.
2. **Add a border that lies flat** — Sample the border pickup rate along a straight edge and treat corners separately. Too many attachments can wave; too few can pull the edge inward.
3. **Fit edging repeats around corners** — Reserve corner units first, then fit complete repeats along each side. Do not hide leftover stitches by crowding one corner.
4. **Finish assembled crochet** — Support the whole wet piece and align seams without forcing motifs beyond their sampled dimensions. Check the relaxed dry size after removing pins.

## Try this example

A straight edge waves after its first border row while the base lies flat. Remove a short trial section, reduce only the excessive attachments and recheck after the same number of rows.

## Check your result

- Compare the repaired area with an undamaged neighbor after relaxing or finishing the sample. Recount the boundary before continuing beyond the repair.
- A repair may remain visible. If the foundation is weak, reinforcing or replacing a section can be more reliable than hiding the surface fault.
