Preserve cuff and upper-arm counts while reviewing the available shaping interval.

## Before you start

Use smooth, light yarn and a small sample that matches the lesson’s flat or circular construction. Mark the right side and record the starting stitch count. Follow the pattern’s own stitch key.

## How to do it

1. **Adjust body or sleeve length** — Place added or removed length in a suitable straight section. Preserve shaping landmarks, paired pieces and the required final repeat rows.
2. **Distribute shaping across stitches and rows** — Separate stitches changed per event from the number of shaping events. Then distribute those events through the available rows while preserving symmetry.
3. **Calculate rows for a target length** — At 30 finished rows per 10 cm, 60 cm corresponds to 180 rows. Row gauge must be measured independently of stitch gauge.
4. **Compare set-in and drop-shoulder construction** — Compare shoulder width, armhole shape and sleeve-cap geometry together. A drop shoulder and a set-in sleeve use different seam paths and ease assumptions.

## Try this example

If eight increase rows must fit a longer sleeve, redistribute those same eight within the permitted section. Keep any required straight cuffs and sleeve-cap depth outside that interval.

## Check your result

- Count live stitches, trace one column and inspect both faces. Compare the relaxed edge with the middle of the sample before repeating the operation on a project.
- Stitch names and mounts vary between knitting styles. Follow the required fabric structure and pattern key rather than assuming every front loop is the correct entry point.
