## Before you start

Have the complete instructions, a short list of unfamiliar actions and the materials for a trial. Separate the trial from the final project.

## How to do it

1. **Choose readable, non-color-only references** — Pair each color with a distinct symbol or written name. Enlarge the key as well as the chart and preserve row and column labels.
2. **Chart dimensions and physical dimensions** — Chart cells count logical stitches; centimeters describe the finished work. Determine physical size with the actual stitch density, not screen zoom or print scale.
3. **Save, print and share working references** — Keep an editable project file separately from a printed chart. A calculator link preserves supported inputs; it is not a backup of your complete making notes.

## Try this example

Print a small chart section at the intended scale and mark overlapping page boundaries. Confirm symbols, row numbers and the key remain readable before printing the whole chart.

## Check your result

- Try the unfamiliar action before committing the main material. If the instructions leave a necessary choice unresolved, write down the missing information and resolve it first.
