Find sound fabric beyond the visible damage and anchor the repair there. Decorative stitching can support a patch, but decoration alone cannot strengthen missing or disintegrating ground.

## Before you start

Stop and record the last correct reference point. Support loose loops or damaged ground before removing anything, and reproduce the fault on a spare sample if possible.

## Try this example

For a worn 2 cm patch, inspect a wider surrounding area and size the backing to reach sound cloth. Baste, test flex and stitch through both layers without tightening them into a pucker.

## Check your result

- Compare the repaired area with an undamaged neighbor after relaxing or finishing the sample. Recount the boundary before continuing beyond the repair.
- A repair may remain visible. If the foundation is weak, reinforcing or replacing a section can be more reliable than hiding the surface fault.
