Inspect where damage begins: at the eye, against the ground or near the working end. Then change needle, working length or strand preparation one at a time.

## Before you start

Stop and record the last correct reference point. Support loose loops or damaged ground before removing anything, and reproduce the fault on a spare sample if possible.

## Try this example

Compare a fresh short thread with the frayed end of a long working thread in two small fills. If fresh thread covers evenly, do not immediately increase strand count.

## Check your result

- Compare the repaired area with an undamaged neighbor after relaxing or finishing the sample. Recount the boundary before continuing beyond the repair.
- A repair may remain visible. If the foundation is weak, reinforcing or replacing a section can be more reliable than hiding the surface fault.
