## Before you start

Confirm whether the instructions use US or UK terms. On a smooth-yarn sample, mark the first and last stitch and note whether the turning chain counts.

## How to do it

1. A sample three-dc cluster (US): three times in the same base, yarn over, insert, draw up a loop, yarn over and pull through two only. Four loops remain; yarn over and pull through all four. Three partial posts now have one shared top.
2. A puff instead gathers elongated loops before closing them; a bobble commonly groups partial tall stitches into a bump. The number of loops, closure chain and next stitch vary. Label your sample with the actual actions, not just the texture name, and count the shared top once.

## Try this example

Work one example of each pattern-defined texture in a labeled strip. Compare height, reverse-side appearance and yarn use; equal stitch counts do not imply equal bulk.

## Check your result

- Count stitch tops separately from chain spaces and compare successive row or round totals. Lay the sample down without stretching it to inspect the shape.
- A symbol or familiar stitch name does not supply a complete construction. Use the project’s own counts, turning rules and joining instructions.
