Measure a joined module and map its orientation. Centered decrease lines and pickup direction determine how adjacent units meet.

## Before you start

Use smooth, light yarn and a small sample that matches the lesson’s flat or circular construction. Mark the right side and record the starting stitch count. Follow the pattern’s own stitch key.

## Try this example

A joined 10 cm square arranged 4 × 5 makes a nominal 40 × 50 cm panel before its outer border. Check the joined dimensions instead of using a stretched loose square.

## Check your result

- Count live stitches, trace one column and inspect both faces. Compare the relaxed edge with the middle of the sample before repeating the operation on a project.
- Stitch names and mounts vary between knitting styles. Follow the required fabric structure and pattern key rather than assuming every front loop is the correct entry point.

Turn a measured, joined motif repeat into rows, columns, and a make count for a rectangular project.

Join and finish several sample motifs before measuring the repeat pitch between matching points. Enter the motif field after subtracting borders. Cover rounds up each axis; complete-only rounds down. Extra motifs are spares outside the layout. Extra outer-edge allowance is added twice to each target dimension. Internal joins belong in the measured motif pitch.

Required field = target width/height + twice the outer-edge allowance. Divide each axis by the finished joined motif pitch, swapping axes when rotated. Cover rounds up; complete-only rounds down. Multiply rows by columns, then add the rounded-up spare percentage. This model covers aligned rectangular layouts.

- Joined repeat width: 10 cm
- Joined repeat height: 10 cm
- Target width: 40 cm
- Target height: 50 cm
- Extra motif allowance: 0 %
- Motif orientation: As measured
- Edge treatment: Cover target (round up)
- Seam or edge allowance: 0 cm
