Spread recently worked stitches along the needle before carrying the unused color. The float must span the fabric’s intended width without gathering it.

## Before you start

Use smooth, light yarn and a small sample that matches the lesson’s flat or circular construction. Mark the right side and record the starting stitch count. Follow the pattern’s own stitch key.

## Try this example

Work a five-stitch color span, then gently open the fabric. If the float tightens before the fabric reaches its intended width, redo the span with more carried length.

## Check your result
