## Before you start

Gather the measurements, counts or timing sample needed below. Record their units and whether they describe a sample, the whole project or one purchased package. Use a finished sample when dimensions or material use depend on fabric structure.

## Try this example

Six motifs at 20 minutes take 120 minutes. Add 30 minutes of joining and 20 minutes of end finishing: 170 active minutes, plus the separately observed drying interval.

## Check your result

- Recheck the inputs against the actual sample or label, keep units consistent and round only the final count or purchase. Repeat a sample if a small measuring difference changes the decision.
- These arithmetic examples assume the measured structure stays comparable. Shaping, borders, dense textures and color changes require their own allowances or samples.

Scale a timed sample into a realistic working estimate with your own allowance.

Time a representative count of the same units used for the target: stitches, rows or motifs. Include assembly separately if the sample omits it.  Avoid adding breaks twice. The central estimate and range support scheduling; they are not a deadline guarantee or an assessment of skill.

Observed minutes per unit are scaled to the target, selected complexity factor, and break allowance. The result shows a ±15% planning band for ordinary pace variation. Use comparable sample and project units; include breaks in the sample or allowance, but not both.
